🌿 Homemade Garlic Salt Recipe

Why make your own?
Homemade garlic salt packs so much more flavor than store-bought. Because you're grinding the dried garlic fresh, the result is potent, aromatic, and customizable.

🧄 Ingredients

  • 3 parts salt (sea salt or Himalayan pink salt work great)
  • 1 part garlic powder (from home-dried garlic or store-bought)
  • 1 part dried parsley (or other herb: thyme, oregano, rosemary)
  • Optional: A small pinch of cornstarch or arrowroot powder to prevent clumping

🔥 How to Make It

  1. Prepare & Dry Garlic
    • Peel and slice your garlic cloves.
    • Dry in a dehydrator (I use my Excalibur) or a freeze-dryer until completely crisp.
    • Store the dried garlic in airtight jars with oxygen absorbers for later use.
  2. Make Garlic Powder
    • Grind the dried garlic into a fine powder using a spice grinder or coffee grinder.
  3. Mix
    • Combine your garlic powder with salt and herbs in the ratio above.
    • Add a tiny bit of cornstarch or arrowroot if you’re worried about moisture or clumping.
  4. Store
    • Keep in an airtight container, preferably in a cool, dark place.
    • A shaker lid makes this easy to use on everything!

Pro Tips

  • Want smoky flavor? Add smoked salt.
  • Like a chunkier texture? Pulse just a few times instead of grinding to a fine powder.
  • Try herb variations depending on what you have growing!
