Makes 10 hamburger buns + 1 sandwich loaf
A simple, forgiving recipe—perfect for first-time bread makers. Soft, slightly sweet, and great for sandwiches or burgers.
Ingredients
- 3 cups warm water (not hot)
- 2 tablespoons yeast
- ⅓ cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon mineral salt
- 2 eggs
- 6 cups flour (start here, add a little more if needed)
Instructions

Activate the yeast
In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Stir gently and let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy. -
Mix the dough
Add eggs and salt. Stir to combine.
Gradually mix in flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. -
Knead
Knead by hand or mixer for 5–7 minutes until dough is smooth and elastic. Add a little flour if sticky, but don’t overdo it. -
First rise
Cover and let rise in a warm place for 60–90 minutes, until doubled in size. -
Shape
Punch down dough.- Divide into 10 equal pieces for hamburger buns
- Shape remaining dough into a loaf and place in a greased loaf pan

Second rise
Let rise again for 30–45 minutes until puffy. -
Bake
Bake at 375°F for:- Buns: 15–18 minutes

Loaf: 25–30 minutes
Until tops are lightly golden.

Brush tops with butter if desired. Let cool slightly before slicing.
